For a living room or dining room, the shape matters more than the material: a slim tube or an oval above a table, a ring or a spiral when the ceiling is high. This whole selection of aluminium pendant lamps targets those rooms, in black, white or gold finishes, with an adjustable cable height depending on the model.
Which aluminium pendant lamp should you choose for a living room or dining room?
To choose according to the room: above a dining table, a slim tube or an oval concentrates the light; in a living room with a high ceiling, a ring or a spiral fills the height. The whole selection is designed for these rooms, in black, white or gold finishes.
Aluminium pendant lamp: tube, round or spiral, which shape should you choose?
The tube dominates the selection by far: this slim profile is hung in a series of two or three above a large table or a kitchen island, and the Aurelino fine gold tube pendant lamp goes down to 1.7 cm in diameter with up to 415 cm of cable. The round shape structures a living room or an open-plan space. The spiral and the cascade are reserved for high ceilings, such as the Spiror gold spiral ring and its 60 cm diameter.
What diameter of pendant lamp above the table?
Compact cylinders go down to 8.2 cm in diameter (Nimbra, Roseta), while large models go up to 47.5 cm (Sersamilo, Fiore) and 60 cm (Rubana, Spiror). As a rule, a light whose diameter stays under a third of the table width keeps the room readable and lets the eye travel. For a rectangular table, the Nersamella oval with stacked discs, 52 cm long, fills the length instead of the width.
| Shape | Share of the selection | Where it works best | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tube | 50 % | Large table, kitchen island, hallway | Aurelino, Jala, Vesperis |
| Oval | 7 % | Dining room, rectangular table | Nersamella |
| Round | 10 % | Living room, open-plan space, bedroom | Nimbra, Roseta, Vitrio |
| Spiral | 3 % | Living room with high ceiling | Rubana, Spiror |
| Cascade | 7 % | High ceiling height | Elisameta, Vesperis |
What light does an aluminium pendant lamp give?
The light depends on the source installed: warm white from 2700 to 3500 K for a soft atmosphere, neutral white from 3500 to 4500 K for a work area. Most pendant lamps include an LED, the others take a GU10, E27, G9 or GX53 bulb, which changes what comes next.
Warm white or neutral white: which temperature for which room?
Warm white suits the living room, the bedroom and the dining room: it softens faces and wood. Neutral white, more direct, is useful above a worktop or a desk. The brightest models in the selection are also the most versatile: design LED pieces for a living space, modern LED pendant lamps for a more understated look.
Integrated LED or replaceable bulb?
The integrated LED cannot be replaced, but it simplifies installation and closes the light. A replaceable bulb lets you choose the brightness and the shade, and replace the source without changing the light. To dim the brightness, go for the dimmer-compatible models, which are controlled from a standard wall switch.
Aluminium or metal pendant lamp: what are the differences?
Aluminium is a light and stable metal: the pendant lamps in this selection are built as slim tubes or wide rings without weighing down the ceiling. The models called metal pendant lamps play the same register, with black, white or gold finishes.
Alu, aluminium or metal pendant lamp: what are we talking about?
Alu, aluminium and metal all refer here to the same family of materials, with aluminium accounting for every model in the selection. Its lightness allows long or wide shapes where a heavier body would require reinforced fixing. In terms of look, the Nordic spirit favours slim lines, while the industrial style embraces more substantial volumes.
Chrome, brushed or lacquered aluminium: which finish?
Chrome is polished and shiny: it reflects the decor and the light. Brushed, satin finish keeps the mark of the surface without a harsh shine. Lacquer is matte and uniform. In this selection, the surfaces are mostly brushed or textured, in black, white and gold. Some models also combine glass with an aluminium body, such as the models combining glass.
At what height should you hang an aluminium pendant lamp?
Adjust the cable height according to the table: the pendant lamp should stay out of the field of vision of seated people and not get in the way of serving. Depending on the reference, the total height ranges from 11 cm minimum to 415 cm maximum, which covers low ceilings as well as large volumes.
What height above a dining table?
Reach your arm over the table: the base of the light should pass above it, without you having to bend down. This height (often around 70 to 80 cm above the tabletop depending on the room and the size of the guests) is set once and for all, with the cable taut. Long tubes such as the Aurelino fine gold tube pendant lamp or the Vesperis slim cascade make the most of this range.
How do you shorten or lengthen the cable?
The cable is adjustable on all models: it is locked at the desired length during assembly, then the ceiling rose is adjusted. Cut the power at the circuit breaker before any work, and check the two or three wire connection depending on the light. Models with a short cable, such as Nimbra and Roseta and their 11 cm minimum height, are aimed at low ceilings.
Where should you install an aluminium pendant lamp in the home?
Living room, dining room and kitchen are the rooms targeted by the whole selection; some models also suit a bedroom or a hallway. All are IP20: for dry indoor use only, never in a bathroom or under a canopy.
Which aluminium pendant lamp for a kitchen?
Above an island or a worktop, choose a tube or a cylinder, which lights downwards without blocking the view of the room. Pendant lamps designed for the kitchen and the white versions for kitchens blend into light cabinets. A GU10 socket lets you direct the beam where you work, as on the Jala pendant lamp and its perforations.
An aluminium pendant lamp in a hallway or a bedroom?
In a hallway, look for a generous cable height and a narrow shape that lets people move around. In a bedroom, choose a compact format with a short cable and a soft light: black pendant lamps for bedrooms and gold finishes for bedrooms cover both moods. A pendant lamp can also be hung in pairs on either side of a bed.
How many watts and which socket for good lighting?
The wattages recorded range from 6 W for slim tubes to 60 W on models with a large E27 bulb, with most references around 10 to 15 W in LED. The socket mainly tells you whether you will be able to change the bulb or not.
What wattage for an LED aluminium pendant lamp?
Thinking in wattage alone says nothing about the light: the flux, the diffusion and the height matter just as much. A 6 W tube placed near the table lights a dining room well enough, while a large model with a bulb needs more watts to cover the same surface. For a large table, aim for an even light rather than high intensity, and a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K.
GU10, E27, G9 or GX53: which socket should you choose?
The GU10 is a pin bulb, with a directional beam that is easy to replace. The E27 is a screw bulb and leaves great freedom of choice. The G9 is a small socket for compact diffusers, the GX53 a flat bulb suited to closed shades. The integrated LED, with no replacement, closes the light.
| Socket | Share of models | Type of source | What it implies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Integrated LED | 57 % | Fixed source | No bulb replacement |
| GU10 | 13 % | Pin bulb | Directional beam, easy replacement |
| E27 | 10 % | Screw bulb | Freedom of choice of bulb and brightness |
| GX53 | 7 % | Flat bulb | Low format, suited to closed shades |
| G9 | 7 % | Small socket | Suitable for compact diffusers |
For a large table or an open living space, models with an E27 bulb such as the Lamella slatted pendant lamp offer this flexibility, with a 35 cm diameter and up to 352 cm of cable.
Black, white or gold aluminium pendant lamp: which colour should you choose?
Black, the most common, blends into the decor and puts the light forward; white discreetly brightens a low ceiling or a small room; gold warms light wood and neutral walls. The choice therefore comes down as much to the finish as to the shape.
Which colour of pendant lamp for a small living room?
In a small space, a light finish goes unnoticed and lets the ceiling breathe: modern white pendant lamps and white metal versions play this role. Black, on the other hand, asserts its presence and draws a sharp line in the room. In between, black and white models and grey finishes calm an interior that is already colourful.
How do you match a gold or black pendant lamp with the room?
Gold matches light wood, beige or off-white walls and brass metals. Black supports dark kitchens, anthracite worktops and dark floors. Look at the gold finishes and the black metal pendant lamps side by side, then choose according to the nearest piece of furniture. Beige and brown complete the palette on a few models.
Dimmer, warranty and care: what to check before buying
Three points are enough on the product page: dimmer compatibility if you want to adjust the brightness, the warranty period, and the material of both the body and the diffuser. A large part of the selection is covered by a five-year warranty.
How do you care for an aluminium pendant lamp?
Dust with a soft cloth or a feather duster, without abrasive products or scouring sponges, which scratch the lacquered or brushed finish. Cut the power before any work on the source. Regular cleaning is enough to preserve the appearance of the aluminium body and the clarity of the diffuser.
What warranty comes with these pendant lamps?
The warranty is five years on the vast majority of the selection, two years on a few references. The exact wording appears on the product page, with the material, the socket, the protection rating and the cable height. Dimmer models are identified by this mention: dimmer-compatible models.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service: you order, you test, you install. If any doubt remains about the height or the socket, browse our lighting catalogue and compare the product pages before confirming.
Frequently asked questions
What is an aluminium pendant lamp?
It is a hanging light whose body is made of aluminium, a light metal that allows slim shapes such as tubes, rings or spirals. In this collection, aluminium is present on every model, sometimes combined with glass or plastic on the diffuser.
Aluminium pendant lamp or metal pendant lamps: which should you choose?
Aluminium is itself a metal: the distinction lies mainly in the finish and the weight. Aluminium is worked into thin profiles, which gives light pendant lamps with slim cables. For a more substantial look, look at the metal models in black, white or gold.
Is there such a thing as a chrome aluminium pendant lamp?
Chrome is a shiny finish obtained by polishing or surface treatment: it reflects the decor and the light. In this selection, the available finishes are mainly black, white and gold, with brushed or textured surfaces depending on the model.
How many watts to light a dining room?
Slim tubes are content with 6 to 15 W in LED, while large models with an E27 bulb go up to 60 W. For a table, aim for an even light rather than high power, and choose a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K.
Can an aluminium pendant lamp be installed outdoors?
No: the models in this collection are rated IP20, protected against contacts and dust, but not against humidity or water splashes. They are installed in dry indoor areas, in a living room, a dining room, a kitchen or a hallway.
