Start by counting the length you need to light and the number of light points: a row of two to eight clear glass globes covers a table or a worktop, while a three-cable model isolates the living room corner. The glass lets the light through, the metal frame carries it, and the bulb decides the colour it gives off.
What are the advantages of glass pendant lamps?
Clear glass lets light through in every direction without creating bulk in the room. The metal frame that carries it stays discreet, in black, white or gold. The result: a pendant lamp that lights widely, works with light and dark furniture alike and still looks good when switched off.
A glass globe does not throw light downwards like an opaque shade: it diffuses it around itself, onto the walls and the ceiling. The bulb stays visible through the glass, filament or LED, and that is part of the design. The material does not yellow or dull over time, and a simple cloth is enough to bring back its clarity. Glass takes just as well to a crisp black frame as to a warmer gold finish: the same shape changes character with the metal that holds it.
Which clear glass pendant lamp for the living room, kitchen or bedroom?
Above a table, a row of clear globes lights the tablecloth without blocking the view; in a kitchen, it sits above a worktop or an island; in a bedroom or hallway, a two or three globe model is enough to set the tone.
Above the dining table
Line up the row of globes with the length of the tabletop, not with the number of guests. A rectangular table calls for a horizontal bar or evenly spaced cables; a round table takes a single centred globe or a small cluster. The Transparenta pendant, black bar and two globes, has an adjustable height so you can fine-tune it after installation. For a large gathering, the Doraine pendant with eight globes covers a long length without multiplying fixing points.
In the kitchen, above a worktop or an island
The light should fall at worktop height, not into the eyes of whoever is cooking. A multi-globe pendant, placed on the working axis, lights the hands and the chopping board. If you are looking for a model lower than the ceiling, the glass pendants designed for the kitchen bring together short shapes and multi-light rows.
Bedroom and hallway, when two or three globes are enough
In a room where you do not read, two or three globes give enough ambient light. An oval shape or a tube suits low ceilings better than a large globe. For a softer look in a hallway, compare with the black pendants for the bedroom, which play on the same glass with a darker frame.
Globe, oval, tube or dome: which glass shape to choose?
The globe is the most common shape in this collection, followed by round and oval globes, then tubes and the dome. The more elongated the shape, the more the light spreads vertically: a tube or an oval suits low ceilings, a globe suits taller spaces.
How many globes above a table
The number is chosen by the length of the tabletop, not by the number of people. Models with two, three, four, six or eight globes exist in the selection. A table for two needs only one or two globes, while a family gathering calls for a longer row to avoid dark spots at the ends.
Which diameter and height for a glass globe
The models in the collection usually state a range marker, more rarely a more compact format, with an adjustable height on some of them. A wider globe lights more widely but visually hangs lower: worth checking when the ceiling is low. The Vitra pendant and its three black cables shows this relationship between diameter, cable length and final height.
| Shape | Effect once switched on | Room where it works best | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Globe | Light spread in every direction | Living room, dining room, bedroom | The most common shape in this collection |
| Round | Even pool of light | Dining room, kitchen | Works well with a black frame |
| Oval | Elongated light, spread along the length | Dining room, hallway | Useful above a long tabletop or a worktop |
| Tube | Vertical, more concentrated light | Kitchen, hallway, bedroom | Suits low ceilings |
| Dome | Downward, more enveloping light | Living room, dining room | Found on fewer models |
Which socket and bulb for a clear glass pendant lamp?
Most models in this selection are listed with an E14 socket, a few with E27, and some with an LED source. The stated wattages range from 10 W to 15 W depending on the model. Clear glass does not filter the light: the colour you get therefore depends mainly on the bulb you choose.
E14 or E27 socket, how to decide
E14 is the small screw socket, and it covers most models in the collection, including the 14 cm globes. E27, which is wider, is used on larger globes. If you absolutely want to reuse a bulb you already have, check its socket before choosing the light, not the other way round.
Warm white, neutral or cool, which colour temperature for these globes
In general, you stay around 2700 to 3500 K for a living room or bedroom, a warm white that makes wood and fabrics look good. Neutral white, between 3500 and 4500 K, suits a kitchen or a hallway. Cool white, above 4500 K, is reserved for work areas. Clear glass does not tint anything: the bulb decides.
Dimmer, IP20 and warranties
A minority of models in the collection are listed as dimmer compatible: check model by model. All pieces are rated IP20, so for dry indoor use. Stated warranties range from two to five years depending on the model.
| Socket | Bulb to plan for | Stated wattage | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| E14 | Small screw socket | 10 W on the models concerned | The most common socket in this collection |
| E27 | Large screw socket | 15 W on the models concerned | Wider bulb, visible through the clear glass |
| LED | Source listed as LED | 10 W to 20 W depending on the model | Check according to the model chosen |
What are the pendant lamp trends for 2026?
In this collection, clear glass is paired with a metal frame, most often black, sometimes gold or white. Multi-globe rows and globe shapes dominate, with modern, contemporary and minimalist styles, plus a few retro or vintage pieces.
Clear glass as a base
The clear colour is the majority in the selection, ahead of black and white. It has a practical advantage: it does not close off the room and lets you see the wall behind the globe. If you prefer glass that tints the light, look instead at the amber tinted globes or the smoked glass, for a softer effect.
Black, gold or white frames
Black metal remains the most common finish, with more industrial steel on some models, and gold or brass finishes that are rarer. Black structures the design, gold warms it. You will find both directions in the lights made entirely of black metal and the gold metal pendants, or combined in the gold and black duos.
How to refresh a glass table with a clear pendant lamp?
Under a glass table, a clear pendant keeps the feeling of lightness: you see the light pass through the tabletop instead of being blocked. Choose a two or three globe model, set the height above the tabletop and keep the metal frame discreet so the whole thing does not feel heavy.
Covering a glass table with wood
If the tabletop becomes opaque, the transparency that gave the room its charm disappears and the glass no longer makes sense under the pendant. Better to keep the tabletop and play with the light above, even if it means only changing the bulb for a warmer tone.
Paint for a glass table, what it changes under a pendant
A painted or opaque tabletop reflects light upwards and makes the glass reflection less noticeable. The pendant should then be raised so it does not glare at seated guests, and a less powerful bulb chosen. The Retrova and its four globes illustrates this case well: the steel and glass keep a clear design even over a matte tabletop.
What about a glass wall light or lampshade?
This collection contains only pendant lamps. If you are looking for a glass globe wall light, a tube wall light or a glass lampshade for a bedside lamp, the reasoning stays the same: check the socket, the material and the IP20 rating, reserved for dry rooms.
Glass globe or tube wall light
What matters on a wall model are the same markers as on a pendant: the socket, the material of the fitting and the protection rating. Ribbed glass diffuses more and softens the light, clear glass shows the bulb. For these families, browse the entire Designix lighting catalogue.
Glass lampshade for a bedside lamp
The same logic of transparency, with a bulb at a warm colour temperature for end-of-day light. A small glass globe on a bedside base picks up the vocabulary of the ceiling pendant and keeps the bedroom consistent.
Ordering a clear glass pendant lamp: delivery, returns and support
Payment is secure, delivery is tracked and returns are possible. The Designix team answers questions about sockets, dimensions and finishes before you order, to check that the pendant you choose matches your ceiling and the bulb you have in mind.
Before confirming, check four things: the number of globes, the E14 or E27 socket, the globe diameter and the adjustable height. These four pieces of information are enough to avoid a return. If any doubt remains about the socket or the height, write to customer service before ordering. To continue comparing, browse the glass pendants with a black frame, the gold versions of the glass and the white glass models.
Frequently asked questions about clear glass pendant lamps
How do you clean a glass light?
Switch off and let the pendant cool, then dust the glass with a soft cloth or a microfibre, without abrasive products. A little warm soapy water is enough on the globes, drying straight away to avoid marks. The metal or steel frame is cleaned dry, without solvent.
What is the difference between a pendant lamp and a chandelier?
A pendant lamp is a light suspended by a cable or a rod, with one source or a few globes, designed to light a specific point such as a table. A chandelier brings together more arms and light points and serves as a centrepiece. All the pieces in this collection are pendant lamps.
Which pendant lamp above a coffee table?
Above a coffee table, a short pendant is better, with one or three globes, raised high enough not to get in the way when you are seated. A globe shape or a small oval works better than a long row of globes, which is reserved for dining tables.
Is a clear glass pendant lamp suitable for a bathroom?
No. All the pendant lamps in this collection are rated IP20, intended for dry, temperate rooms. For a bathroom, a damp room or outdoors, you need a light with a higher protection rating than the one offered here.
Which bulb should you choose for a clear glass pendant lamp?
The sockets listed in this collection are E14, E27 and, on some models, an LED source. A filament bulb or a 10 W E14 LED is suited to these globes. For warm, soft light, choose a colour temperature between 2700 and 3500 K.
