What sets a Steinhauer light apart?
Steinhauer is a lighting manufacturer established in Apeldoorn, in the Netherlands. The brand works primarily with metal, then glass, linen, velvet and fabric, in a modern and contemporary register. Its lights are shipped directly from the Netherlands to the customer's address in the UK, without passing through an intermediate warehouse.
A Dutch manufacturer, three signatures
Steinhauer also distributes two other brands available from us: Mexlite and Anne Light & Home. This explains part of the stylistic differences within the same lighting selection: an industrial black base on one side, softer and more decorative shapes on the other.

Round dominates, followed by tube and ball shapes. Oval or drum shades, ceiling rings and support bars appear frequently. Black remains the most common colour, followed by white, silver, beige and gold.

Metal as the backbone
A long arm, a suspension bar, a ceiling ring: the structure remains metal even when the shade is fabric or glass. This allows a pleated fabric pendant and a ring ceiling light to coexist in the same living room without the overall look appearing disjointed.
Modern, Scandinavian and industrial styles
The modern style covers the vast majority of models, contemporary follows closely, then Nordic style. Lines are clean, volumes often generous, shades round. For a softer atmosphere, look for linen, beige and oval shapes; for a workshop feel, black, silver and extendable arms.
How to choose a Steinhauer light by room?
Start with the room, not the model: it dictates the height, the number of light points and the type of diffusion. The living room accounts for most references, the dining room and bedroom follow, then the office and kitchen. A living space accepts several sources, a bedroom needs fewer.

Living room and dining room
For a large living room, an arc floor lamp covers the sofa area without drilling the ceiling, with a 45 cm shade and a height reaching up to 240 cm. Above a table, a multi-light bar such as the five-light smoked glass pendant spreads light along the entire length.
Bedroom, office and kitchen
In a bedroom, a long-arm wall light avoids stacking bedside lamps. In an office, a tactile LED pendant with dimmer is adjusted with a fingertip. In a kitchen, a recessed spotlight with GU10 base 10 cm in diameter blends into the ceiling.
Which light for which use?
The majority of models are listed as warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K: a light that leans towards soft yellow, suitable for the living room, bedroom and table. E27 bases dominate overwhelmingly, which leaves the choice of bulb and its actual power.
Warm white for the home
As a rule, stay below 3000 K in relaxation areas and go up to 4000 K for working or cooking, depending on the room. A model with integrated LED fixes the temperature from the start; a model with an E27 base lets you change it by replacing the bulb.
Base, power and dimmer
E27 for the vast majority, then integrated LED modules, G9 on small volumes and GU10 on recessed spotlights. Listed powers range from a few watts for LED modules to a maximum of 60 W on some base models. About a quarter of references accept a dimmer; on the others, dimming depends on the bulb installed.
Which size and height to choose?
Two reference points are enough: the diameter of the shade relative to the furniture, and the height of the bottom of the shade relative to the worktop or floor. A dining room pendant is generally set between 75 and 85 cm above the tabletop, a kitchen pendant a little higher.
Above a table
On a table for six, a shade 50 to 60 cm in diameter holds the scale well. The grey linen drum pendant goes down to a total height of 145 cm, the Velina adjusts from 40 to 165 cm, the three-light cork pendant from 97 to 167 cm.
Height adjustment
Always check the available cable height before ordering: some bars go very low, such as the five-light cluster adjustable up to 390 cm for a staircase or high ceiling. A short cable cover keeps a clean look at the ceiling.
Which mistakes to avoid?
The most common mistakes are not about style but measurements: a shade too small on a large table, a pendant set too high that lights the ceiling instead of the table, a wall light whose arm does not reach far enough from the wall.
Choosing mistakes
Mixing four finishes in the same room blurs the look; in a very black collection, two shades are enough, for example black and gold as on the black pendant with gold interior. Also consider the weight and fixing point before choosing a large bar or a 120 cm oval ceiling cover.
Installation mistakes
Do not hang a light in the axis of a door or passage: it gets knocked and moves. Allow access to the switch and, if the model is height-adjustable, keep the option to lower the cable after the furniture is in place.
How to install and maintain these lights?
All references in this selection are IP20: indoor use, protected from water splashes. For a bathroom, damp room or terrace, look for a higher protection rating in the rest of the lighting catalogue.
Indoor installation
Switch off the circuit before any work and respect the maximum wattage indicated on the socket. A model with an extendable arm such as the Spring industrial wall light, which projects up to 90 cm and accepts 40 W, is fixed to a load-bearing wall or with a plug suitable for the surface.
Simple care
A soft, dry cloth is enough for metal frames and fabric shades, without abrasive products or water on the sockets. Smoked glass is cleaned with warm soapy water, dried well before reassembly. Our lights are guaranteed for two years.

Which bulb should I use in a Steinhauer light with an E27 base?
The E27 base accepts a classic screw bulb or LED. Respect the maximum wattage indicated on the socket, often 40 W and up to 60 W on some models. A lower-wattage LED bulb gives comparable light for less consumption. On models with an integrated LED module, the bulb is not replaceable.
Can these lights be installed in a bathroom?
The selection presented is IP20, intended for indoor use protected from water splashes. For a bathroom or damp room, a higher protection rating is required, generally IP44 or more, to be found in the rest of the lighting catalogue.
Are Steinhauer lights sold with the bulb?
It depends on the model: references with an integrated LED module include the light source, those with an E27 or G9 base require the bulb to be purchased separately. The product page specifies the base and maximum wattage, allowing you to choose the colour temperature you prefer.
At what height should a light be hung above a dining table?
Generally allow 75 to 85 cm between the bottom of the shade and the tabletop, a little more if the table is wide or you want to keep the view. Check the adjustable cable height of the model before installation, then adjust once the table is in place. Too high, the pendant lights the ceiling; too low, it gets in the way.
