Three design approaches that work:

The hallway is the perfect place for a smart purchase. It is a circulation space, not a living area — a €50-150 light fixture does the job perfectly.

• Less than €50 — simple ceiling lights in painted metal or glass. Functional, discreet. LED bulb life: 15-20 years.
• €50 to €150 — designer pendants in metal + glass, small chandeliers with 1 to 3 bulbs. The optimal quality-to-aesthetic ratio for a hallway.
• €150 to €420 — decorative pieces in noble materials (brass, crystal, solid wood). Reserved for main entryways and spacious halls.

Installing a hallway chandelier: height, centering, and safety

The hallway is a high-traffic area. Installation rules are stricter than elsewhere:

• Minimum height — the bottom of the chandelier must be at least 210 cm from the floor (clearance standard). With a 250 cm ceiling, your chandelier can hang down by a maximum of 40 cm.
• Centering — center the chandelier within the width of the hallway. Lengthwise, place it in the first third (entrance side) for a welcoming visual effect.
• Doors — check that doors opening into the hallway do not hit the chandelier when opened.
• Electricity — a long hallway may require two-way switching (a switch at each end). If your current setup only has one, an electrician can add a second for €60 to €100.

For low ceilings (less than 240 cm), a flush-mount or semi-flush ceiling light is mandatory. No hanging pendants that force you to duck your head while walking through.
