A black light fixture does not emit black light: the frame is black, the bulb stays white. Pendant, ceiling light or wall light, it is the shape of the support and the material of the diffuser that decide the effect, not the colour of the metal.
Black lighting: what light and what mood in the room?
The selection is very often in black metal, often combined with glass, and some models specify a warm white light, around 2700 to 3500 K. Cool white, between 4500 and 6500 K, remains very rare here. On a light wall, the black silhouette creates a sharp contrast; on a dark wall, it almost disappears and lets the visible bulb lead the room.
What light does a black light fixture give?
A white light, identical to that of a fixture with the same bulb. Black metal does not colour the flux: it frames it. With opal glass, the diffusion is even and glare-free; with amber glass, the warm tint warms the room; with clear or graphite glass, the bulb stays visible and the effect is more graphic.
Black light fixture or white light fixture: which to choose?
Black marks the silhouette and stands out even when switched off. In a light, uncluttered interior, the white version of the same type of model blends more into the ceiling. In a wood, concrete or colourful decor, black structures the room. The choice therefore comes down to the desired contrast, not the amount of light.
Black pendant, chandelier or ceiling light: which shape of black light fixture to choose?
A pendant hangs from the ceiling and suits above a table or an island. A ceiling light, flush with the ceiling, lights a room with low headroom. Multi-light versions dress a large room. Ball, round and tube shapes dominate the selection, in metal alone or metal and glass.
Black pendant light fixture: at what height should it hang?
Above a dining table, allow generally between 75 and 85 cm between the bottom of the fixture and the tabletop. Above a worktop or an island, rather 70 to 80 cm, depending on the size of the room. A long or multi-globe model is positioned higher so as not to cut the guests' line of sight.
Chandelier or multi-light pendant: what is the difference?
A chandelier multiplies the light points and globes to light widely from the centre of the room. A multi-light pendant spreads the same principle over a finer structure. A globe version, such as the Gravity 6-light black pendant, opal glass, lights a large table without a single point.
For a shorter table, the pendant light fixture in one or three lights is enough. Ball-shaped pendants give a very readable round volume above an island.
Which black light fixture to choose room by room: living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom?
In a living room or dining room, a multi-light pendant centred on the table works well. In a kitchen, a model above the worktop or island is preferred. In a bedroom, a one-light pendant or a wall light near the bed is enough, with soft light.
| Room | Type of fixture | Common socket | Protection rating | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Central pendant or additional wall light | E27 or E14 | IP20 | Ceiling height and area to light |
| Dining room | Pendant above the table | E14 or E27 | IP20 | Number of lights and diameter of the model |
| Bedroom | One-light pendant or wall light near the bed | E27 or E14 | IP20 | Soft light, dimmer if the model provides one |
| Kitchen | Island or worktop pendant | E27 or E14 | IP20 | Distance between the fixture and the worktop |
| Hallway and corridor | Wall light or short pendant | E27 or GU10 | IP20 | Width of the passage not to reduce |
| Bathroom and toilet | Round wall light with sensor | GU10 | IP44 | Protection against water splashes |
To light the living area, aim for a centred pendant and an additional wall light near the sofa. An original living room light fixture can fit in a single strong piece: ball and cage shapes are enough, without multiplying the sources.
The Rowen 3-light black pendant, in wood and metal, is intended for the living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen and hallway. On the table side, dining room lighting is chosen according to the number of guests and the length of the tabletop.
In the kitchen, a pendant above a kitchen island lights the worktop without occupying the walls. For a small space, the Bobi 3-light black pendant in metal remains compact. In the bedroom, a bedroom light fixture in one light, such as the Gigi 1-light black pendant, clear glass, avoids an overly busy effect.
Near the door, a black wall light for the hallway lights the passage. The Fusion Élégante wood and black wall light combines wood, metal and glass, for the hallway, living room or bedroom.
Which light fixture for toilets and bathroom?
In a bathroom, a wet room or a toilet, choose a fixture protected against splashes. The vast majority of black light fixtures in the selection are IP20 and remain reserved for dry rooms. A few models are IP44, including a round wall light with sensor in GU10 socket.
Original toilet light fixture: what solutions?
A small wall format, round or as a wall light, avoids reducing the passage. The GU10 socket accepts a directional spotlight, handy above a washbasin. The round black wall light with sensor works in IP44.
Black bathroom light fixture: which protection rating?
The IP rating describes resistance to water and dust. In the zone near the bathtub or shower, an IP44 protects against splashes. Elsewhere in the room, an IP20 is suitable. Wall lights in black work as well in a hallway as in a bedroom.
Black and wood, black and gold, black metal light fixture: how to match materials?
Black matches almost everything. A black and wood light fixture warms a light interior, a black and gold model brings a shiny accent, and black metal combined with opal, amber or graphite glass remains the most understated. The simple rule: pick up a material already present in the room, wood from the furniture or metal from the handles.
| Material or finish | Effect in the room | Suitable room | Reference in the selection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black metal | Clean silhouette, strong contrast | Living room, kitchen, hallway | Ibor 1-light black pendant |
| Metal and opal glass | Even light, no glare | Living room, dining room, bedroom | Gravity 6-light black pendant |
| Metal and amber glass | Warm light, vintage feel | Dining room, kitchen | Gigi 3-light black pendant |
| Clear or graphite glass | Visible glass and exposed bulb | Living room, hallway | Gigi 5-light black pendant |
| Wood and metal | Warms a light interior | Living room, bedroom, hallway | Rowen 3-light black pendant |
| Wood, metal and glass | Mixed material, compact wall format | Hallway, bedroom | Fusion Élégante wood and black wall light |
Black metal light fixtures form the most understated base. Glass pendants bring the transparency or opacity that changes the whole effect. For a more dressed accent, gold finishes are often limited to a ring or a socket.
How to choose your black light fixture: socket, colour temperature and wattage?
The socket determines the bulb: E27 for a wide light, E14 for fine pendants and small wall lights, GU10 for directional spotlights and damp rooms, G9 for compact points. For temperature, warm white from 2700 to 3500 K remains the most common for a home. The indicated wattages are 10 or 15 W depending on the models.
E27 or E14: which socket for which pendant?
E27 is the large screw socket: it accepts the most common bulbs and suits one or multi-light pendants as well as wall lights. E14, finer, is intended for small globes and elegant pendants, with lower wattages. Check the socket before buying the bulb.
Warm white or cool white for a black light fixture?
Warm white, around 2700 to 3000 K, warms a living room, a bedroom or a dining room. Cool white, between 4500 and 6500 K, gives a more neutral effect, reserved for work rooms or a corridor. For an interior, warm remains the most comfortable choice.
Many models already include the source: integrated LED models do without a bulb and display a long lifespan. Be careful, the source is then not replaceable. The dimmer is only provided on rare references: check this point if you want to modulate the intensity. The warranty is two years on almost the entire selection, up to five years on a few models.
Industrial black light fixture or minimalist black light fixture: which style to choose?
The industrial spirit plays with the cage, exposed metal and visible bulb, often in a kitchen, a corridor or a hallway. The minimalist style prefers simple lines and round or tube volumes, more discreet in a bedroom or living room. Both go well with a contemporary interior.
Industrial black light fixture: in which rooms?
An Ibor 1-light black pendant in metal, with a contemporary and industrial style, shows its structure and suits a kitchen, a corridor or a hallway. The industrial style supports visible volumes and an exposed cable. It goes well with concrete, brick or raw wood.
How to recognise a minimalist black light fixture?
Little material, no added decoration, a profile readable from afar. Modern models and the contemporary style share these lines, often in opal glass to avoid any visible source. A white, light wood or grey interior lends itself directly to it.
For a large room, the Royal 4-light black pendant in glass and metal, with a retro spirit, occupies the space above a table. The Gigi 5-light black pendant, amber glass plays the same card with a warmer light.
Can you make a pendant light fixture yourself, and how to install it?
A pendant light fixture is made from an electrical cable, a socket and a lampshade, but connecting to the mains requires precautions and knowledge of electricity. The simplest solution remains a ready-to-install pendant, delivered with its cable and fixing, without DIY connection.
How to install a ready-to-install pendant?
Cut the power at the circuit breaker before any work. Check that the ceiling fixing point supports the weight of the fixture, then adjust the cable length before tightening. Above an island, align the pendants on the same axis for a clean effect. Call an electrician if in doubt.
How to maintain a black light fixture?
Dust dry, with a soft cloth. On black metal models, avoid abrasives and overly aggressive products that mark the finish. For a glass diffuser, a diluted glass cleaner is enough, after cutting the power and letting the bulb cool. A mounting at human height is cleaned without a stepladder.
Where to find an original black light fixture and lighting clearance in Lyon?
Buying online allows you to calmly compare shapes, materials and sockets, then have it delivered. A lighting store in Lyon, like lighting clearance sales, mainly brings advice and immediate collection. The two channels complement each other depending on the urgency of the project.
Lighting store in Lyon or online purchase?
In a shop, you see the real size and the tint of the glass. Online, you compare families without travelling and prepare the technical sheet in advance. To buy your light fixture online with confidence, check the socket, the protection rating and the warranty before validating.
Cheap original light fixture: where to look?
End-of-line and entry-level models remain the best entry point. Budget light fixtures cover wall lights, one-light pendants and small wall formats. Look first at the shape and the socket, which determine the use.
At Designix, payment is secure, delivery is tracked and returns are possible. Customer service supports the choice of socket as well as the installation height. The warranty is two years on almost all models, up to five years on a few references.

Frequently asked questions
How to make a pendant light fixture?
You need an electrical cable, a socket with the right base and a lampshade or a cage, then fix the assembly to the ceiling. Connecting to the mains requires precautions and a check of the supported load. A ready-to-install pendant, such as the Bobi or Gigi models, avoids this work.
Which light fixture to choose for a toilet?
For a toilet or a wet room, prefer a compact model and, if the room receives splashes, an IP44 protection rating like the round wall light with sensor in the selection. The GU10 socket allows the spotlight to be directed. In a dry room, a black IP20 wall light is enough.
Original living room light fixture: where to start?
Start from the use: a centred pendant for the living area, a wall light near a sofa or a bookcase for additional light. Ball or cage shapes and multi-light versions in amber or opal glass give character without overloading the room.
Which black light fixture for a kitchen?
A pendant above an island or a worktop lights the surface without occupying the walls, in E27 or E14 socket depending on the format. Tube shapes and one or three-light versions are the most discreet, while a multi-globe glass model dresses an open kitchen.
Is a black light fixture possible in a bathroom?
Yes, provided you choose a model protected against splashes, in IP44, and suited to the location around the bathtub or shower. The selection includes a round black IP44 wall light with sensor, in GU10 socket; IP20 models remain reserved for dry rooms.
