First, measure the available height and the floor footprint, then start from the shape: an arc to reach over the sofa, a vertical tube in a corner, a glass ball for a discreet light at eye level. All the models in this selection plug into a standard socket and most take an E27 bulb, replaceable whenever you want to change the light tone.
Which LED floor lamp should you choose to light a room without any work?
An LED floor lamp stands on the floor and installs without drilling: a socket is all you need. In this selection, the light is chosen with the bulb, most often E27, and you must stay below the maximum wattage stated on the model's product sheet to keep an even light.
Freestanding LED floor lamp: why place it rather than fix it
No holes, no chases, no electrician required: the lamp follows the sofa, moves from room to room, and comes with you when you move. It is the solution when you rent or want to light a corner without damaging anything. Browse floor lamps and our lighting universe to see the available silhouettes, from straight stems to offset arms.
E27 bulb or integrated LED module: what it changes day to day
Most models in the selection take an E27 bulb: you choose the light temperature, warm white around 2700 to 3500 K for a soft atmosphere, and you replace the bulb alone if it burns out. A few models run on an integrated LED module, often 15, 24 or 27 W, or use a G4 or GU10 fitting: the light is then fixed from the start. Find these variants in the other LED models.
Where should you place an LED floor lamp in the home?
The living room tops the list of equipped rooms, followed by the bedroom and the office; a few models also find their place in a kitchen or a dry, well-ventilated toilet. All the models in this selection are rated IP20: protected against touch, but not designed for a damp room.
An LED floor lamp for the living room, near the sofa or reading corner
An offset arc brings light above the sofa without blocking the walkway, a vertical tube slips between two pieces of furniture, a dressed tripod anchors a reading corner. This is the room where you most often choose a three-light model to adjust the mood. See the living room lighting selection.
Bedroom, office, toilet: the uses that really work
In a bedroom, a narrow stem lights the bedside corner without cluttering it; in an office, light comes from the side and limits reflections on the screen; in a well-ventilated toilet or WC, a small compact model helps out as long as it is kept away from water points. Two leads: bedroom floor lamp and office floor lamp.
How do you choose a freestanding LED floor lamp for your room and style?
Start with the available space, then the use: an arc to reach over a sofa or table, a vertical tube in a corner, a glass ball for accent light at eye level, a tripod dressed in fabric, linen or velvet for a reading corner.
| Shape | Silhouette | Where it works best |
|---|---|---|
| Tube, column | Narrow vertical stem | Living room corner, office nook, bedroom |
| Arc | Offset arm over empty space | Living room, dining room |
| Ball | Glass globe set high | Living room, bedroom |
| Tripod | Three legs and a dressed stem | Living room, bedroom, kitchen, office |
| Offset bell | Closed shade carried by an arm | Living room, bedroom |
Which shape to choose: tube, arc, ball or tripod?
The tube is the most common shape in the selection: it takes up 25 cm on the floor and slips in anywhere. The arc needs clearance, but it lights where no base can go. The ball, meanwhile, is for discreet accent light: the Éclat Sphérique glass ball measures 23 cm at the base for 165 cm high, with a G4 bulb. The tripod, like the Iano tripod, dresses a corner in fabric or velvet. See also the ball family.
LED floor lamps around 120 cm high are not offered in this collection.
Material and colour: black metal, white, gold, wood or glass?
Metal dominates widely and is often combined with glass, fabric, linen or velvet. The most common finishes are black and white, ahead of silver, beige, green and gold. A black stem blends into a dark interior, a white one disappears against a light wall, a gold touch warms a neutral room. For materials, compare metal frames, wood stems and glass globes, then refine by shade with black finishes or gold touches.
What footprint should you plan for a floor lamp?
First count the available height and the floor footprint. Arc models measure around 210 cm high and can go up to 240 cm, with a base of about 45 cm, while vertical versions are around 161 to 185 cm with a narrow base.
| Model | Height / dimensions | Floor footprint |
|---|---|---|
| Crépuscule Chic | 161 x 25 cm | 25 cm |
| Yala | 185 cm | Straight stem |
| Kasbah | 166 cm | 31 cm |
| Gyna | H 210 cm, up to 240 cm | ø 45 cm |
| Iano | 170 cm | ø 75 cm |
Under what ceiling height does an arc floor lamp fit?
An offset arc stands beside the furniture, not above it: the arm reaches out into empty space. Allow the height of the model plus some margin to handle it, and check that the arm does not hit a shelf or a ceiling light. If your ceiling is low or the passage is narrow, a vertical tube remains safer. Other offset designs are visible in designer floor lamp.
Base and floor footprint: what to measure before ordering
Measure the free floor area, not just the base footprint: a 45 cm wide base needs space around it, a 75 cm diameter tripod takes almost a square metre. On parquet, a heavy base holds better than a thin stem; on a thick rug, a stable and compact model is better. Dimmable models are grouped in dimmable models.
LED floor lamp, LED ceiling light or LED chandelier: what to choose for a living room?
The LED ceiling light lights the whole room from the ceiling, the LED chandelier goes above a table, the floor lamp lights at seating height and moves as you wish, and a wall light frees the floor. These solutions are not mutually exclusive: they complement each other in the same living room.
- Freestanding floor lamp: targeted accent light, no work, movable.
- LED ceiling light: general light, clear floor, installed at the centre of the room.
- LED chandelier: above the table, to mark the meal.
- LED wall light: when the floor must stay free, at the head of a bed or in a hallway.
LED ceiling light or floor lamp for a living space
A ceiling light alone flattens the room and leaves corners in shadow. The floor lamp, on the other hand, brings light down to reading height and creates zones. The most comfortable option remains the combination: a general light on the ceiling, a floor lamp for the sofa. Compare contemporary style living room to find the silhouette that suits your interior.
When a powerful LED wall light replaces a floor lamp
If the floor is cluttered or the room is a busy passage, a wall-mounted light illuminates at the chosen height without taking a centimetre of floor. It does, however, require fixing and an electrical supply. The floor lamp keeps the advantage of moving and plugging into an existing socket, which remains the simplest solution when renting.
How do you get an original floor lamp without falling into the gadget trap?
Originality comes from shape and material much more than from effect: a bamboo stem, a velvet shade, an arc dressed in fabric or linen, a metal and glass assembly. These details are enough to stand out from the standard model without complicating installation or bulb changes.
Wood, bamboo, velvet or linen: the materials that change everything
A bamboo stem immediately warms a living room with light walls, a linen stem diffuses a softer light, a velvet shade absorbs light and makes it more muted. These materials remain compatible with a standard E27 bulb, so they are easy to replace. See linen floor lamp and wood stems.
Industrial, vintage or jungle style: what exists in the selection
Modern and contemporary style dominates, followed by industrial, then jungle for bamboo stems and foliage. A three-light in black metal leans towards the workshop look, a linen-dressed stem towards vintage, a bamboo towards jungle. For a very sober look, see contemporary floor lamp.
Halogen floor lamp or LED floor lamp: what is the difference in daily use?
The difference lies in the bulb, not the lamp base. Most models take an E27 bulb: you remain free to choose an LED or halogen bulb, as long as you respect the maximum wattage stated on the model's product sheet. An LED heats less and is easy to replace.
Can you put an LED bulb in a halogen floor lamp?
Yes, if the bulb has the same fitting and stays below the stated maximum wattage. Most models in the selection are rated for 40 W maximum, others for 7, 15 or 27 W. An LED bulb with comparable light output uses less energy and heats less, which is better suited to a closed shade like that of the Wora offset bell.
What to check before changing bulb technology
Three points: the type of fitting (E27, G4 or GU10 depending on the model), the maximum wattage of the socket, and the size of the bulb inside the shade. A bulb that is too wide may touch the fabric or glass. None of the models in this selection is sold with its bulb: it is chosen separately, according to the desired effect. For a tight budget, the most affordable selection helps you narrow it down.
Outdoor LED floor lamp, solar or rechargeable wireless: is it possible?
The models in this selection are rated for indoor use with an IP20 protection rating: they are not designed to stay outside, nor to run on battery or solar power. For a terrace, balcony or garden, you need to look for a light designed for outdoor use.
Why the IP20 rating means you must stay indoors
IP20 means the lamp is protected against finger contact and against solid objects larger than 12 mm, but not against water. Light rain, cleaning splashes or a damp bathroom expose it to electrical risk. The only possible damp use remains dry, well-ventilated toilets, with the lamp kept away from water points.
How to maintain a floor lamp so it lasts
Dust the shade and stem with a soft, dry cloth, cut the power before changing the bulb, and check the condition of the cable and switch once a year. Glass is cleaned with clear water, never with an abrasive product. The whole selection is guaranteed for two years. Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service to support you: everything you need to choose with peace of mind, whether it is the white Gyna arc or a model from designer living room floor lamp.
