What Partition Should I Use to Create a Sleeping Area in a Studio?

Add a separation between the sleeping area and the living area of your studio apartment to better define the spaces and ensure your privacy. Here are a few partition ideas for organizing your bedroom.

Curtains: A practical solution

Curtains are probably the simplest solution for dividing space. Easy to install, they adapt to all studio apartments, whether small or large. You have several options for installing this separation in your sleeping area:

  • Traditional curtain rods;
  • Ceiling-mounted tracks, which can span the room without sagging. You can also enclose the bed with curved tracks;
  • A curtain wire, if you want a discreet wall mounting.

For decoration, play with colors and patterns.

Bookcases in all their forms

Bookcase shelves are among the best furniture pieces for separating a sleeping area in a studio apartment. If you have enough room, opt for wide models to create a real wall between the living area and the bedroom space. A shallow bookcase is also a good choice for preserving floor space. If you want to completely conceal the bedroom, choose a bookcase with a solid back. A simple shelf can also do the trick, depending on your aesthetic preferences. The design of the bookcase depends on your tastes.

Partitions for small spaces

Partitions, with their thin structure, are particularly well-suited to small spaces. To create a sleeping area in a studio apartment, you can choose from a wide variety of partitions, both removable and fixed. Among the removable models that allow you to modulate the space according to your needs, you can find:

  • Folding screens, available in various styles and materials;
  • Japanese panel blinds, known for their refined aesthetic;
  • Sliding partition kits or DIY options.

For a fixed partition, consider a room divider screen (claustra). Whether made of glass, graphic wood, metal, or raw bamboo, this option meets all aesthetic requirements.

Glass partitions and half-walls to maintain volume

If you want to create a sleeping area while maintaining the room's volume, a glass partition is the ideal solution. It allows you to separate the space without losing light or volume. For privacy, simply add curtains that you can close at night. An alternative is the half-wall, which conceals the bed while preserving the volume. You can use the top of the partition to store books. Complete the decor with an artificial plant and a table lamp.
