Round, square, or organic: which shape to choose

A round coffee table softens the lines of a living room dominated by rectangular shapes. Straight sofas, linear TV stands: the roundness of the table creates a harmonious counterpoint. It is also safer if you have young children, with no sharp edges.

A rectangular or square coffee table fits logically in front of a sectional sofa. It offers maximum usable surface area and a structured look. It is the rational choice for living rooms that also serve as an office or workspace.

Organic and asymmetrical shapes bring artistic character. Inspired by pebbles, leaves, or abstract forms, they become a conversation piece and adapt to interiors that dare to be different.

Materials that make the difference

Marble remains the noble material par excellence. Carrara white, Guatemala green, Marquina black: each variety tells a geological story. Marble is heavy, precious, and ages beautifully.

The right proportions

The ideal height for a coffee table is 2-3 cm below the sofa seat, which is generally between 35 and 45 cm. Too low, and it forces you to lean uncomfortably. Too high, and it breaks the line of sight.

The length should not exceed two-thirds the length of the sofa. In front of a 240 cm sofa, a table of 120 to 160 cm will be balanced. Leave 40 to 50 cm of circulation space between the table and the sofa.

Coffee table with or without storage?

Built-in storage is very practical for hiding remote controls and magazines. Tables with a drawer or bottom shelf offer the best compromise between aesthetics and functionality.

Is marble fragile for a coffee table?

Marble can stain (from acids, wine) but does not break easily. A water-repellent treatment and a coaster are enough to protect it on a daily basis.
