Creating the perfect reading nook at home

A reading nook doesn't need to be large. An armchair, a good lamp, and a small piece of furniture to place your book on are enough to create a refuge where you want to lose yourself for hours.
The seat: the ideal armchair
A reading chair must support the back and head. A high backrest with wings (a wingback chair) is perfect: it envelops and isolates. Add a footrest or an ottoman to stretch your legs.
The seat should be neither too soft (you sink in and your back suffers) nor too hard (uncomfortable after 30 minutes). Test it by sitting for at least 10 minutes before buying.
Reading lighting
Reading light should come from behind the shoulder, slightly above the head. An adjustable floor lamp or a swing-arm wall lamp are the best options. The ideal intensity is 300-500 lux on the page, in 3000K for a good balance of comfort and precision.
