5 Simple Tips for Cleaning the Oven Tray

The oven tray, also known as the drip pan, accumulates grease, sauce spills, melted cheese, etc. These heat-burned residues are difficult to remove without the proper method.

Baking soda to clean the oven tray

Baking soda is a versatile natural product that is very effective against dirt. It can remove stains from a sofa in the living room, disinfect bedding in the bedroom, and in the kitchen, it is an excellent ally for cleaning the oven tray. It acts as a mild abrasive on the surface. First, wash the tray to remove grease and dirt. Then, sprinkle with baking soda and scrub with a damp sponge. This method will restore your utensil to its former shine.

Black soap to degrease the drip pan and other utensils

Degreasing the oven tray is essential. Dish soap can be used, but it takes time, especially if a thick layer of grease has formed. Black soap, a powerful degreaser, is more suitable. For the oven, choose the solid version, which is easy to apply to dirt. Coat the drip pan with black soap and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then, scrub with a sponge and rinse with hot water. This technique also works for stovetops.

White vinegar and coarse salt, an effective mixture for the oven tray

A mixture of coarse salt and white vinegar is also very effective for cleaning the oven tray. Prepare a solution with equal parts white vinegar and coarse salt, diluted with a little water. Soak a sponge in this mixture and scrub the still-hot or warm tray. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing. If necessary, repeat the operation.

Bleach or ammonia for very dirty trays

It is recommended to clean the oven tray regularly, or even after each use. However, for stubborn stains, bleach can be useful. If you use this product, take precautions: wear gloves and safety glasses. Dilute 1/4 bleach in 3/4 water. Soak the tray in this solution for 2 hours, then rinse thoroughly. For the most stubborn stains, ammonia can replace the bleach.

Less dirt, less cleaning, less wear

For easier cleaning of the oven tray, prevent dirt from building up. If you think your next recipe might produce a lot of juices, cover the drip pan with aluminum foil or use a baking mat. After cooking, simply remove the aluminum or the mat, then wash the tray with dish soap. Then, rub with newspaper to make it shine.
